Grant Description

The Trico POWER Grants program is a community-focused initiative operated by the Trico Electric Charitable Trust, funded through contributions from Operation Round Up. Since 2008, the program has awarded over $850,000 in funding to non-profit organizations throughout southern Arizona. With a mission to support local service providers and strengthen the region’s capacity to address critical community needs, POWER Grants are distributed twice annually to eligible non-profit organizations. The funding supports a wide array of sectors, including food and basic needs, housing, health and mental care, emergency services, education, substance abuse prevention, arts, literacy, and child development. The program’s bifurcated grant cycles ensure a balanced distribution of resources to a variety of focus areas. Spring grants support organizations involved in health and emergency response sectors, while fall grants focus on education and child development. Each grant cycle provides up to $10,000 per awarded organization, with the total annual distribution depending on the number and scope of applications. Organizations must be tax-exempt and operate within southern Arizona. Funding may be used for both direct services and capacity-building efforts aligned with the program’s priority areas. Applications are submitted through the AwardSpring platform. After submission deadlines, applications are reviewed by the POWER Grants Committee, which includes Trico employees and members. The committee scores applications and submits funding recommendations to the Trico Board of Directors. Funding decisions are finalized and all applicants are notified in May for the spring cycle and in December for the fall cycle. The spring 2025 cycle opens on February 3, 2025, and the fall 2025 cycle closed on October 6, 2025. Applicants should prepare early for the next expected cycles in February and September 2026. While no cost share or matching is required, organizations must demonstrate alignment with the grant’s focus areas. A wide range of local non-profits, including food banks, schools, health service providers, and community centers, have previously received support through this program. With recurring funding cycles and a strong track record of community investment, Trico POWER Grants continue to play a critical role in empowering non-profits and enhancing quality of life across southern Arizona.
