The Columbia Bank Foundation Micro Grant Program is designed to offer streamlined financial support to nonprofit organizations operating within Columbia Bank’s New Jersey footprint. Recognized as one of the state’s largest private corporate foundations, the Columbia Bank Foundation prioritizes charitable investment in low- and moderate-income communities. This Micro Grant initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader mission to support innovative programs that yield measurable impact in key service areas, including community investment, education, health, food security, the arts, and environmental sustainability.
The Micro Grant Program offers funding between $5,000 and $7,500. It is intended for organizations that align with the Foundation’s focus areas and require smaller-scale funding through a simplified application process. Unlike other programs with fixed quarterly deadlines, the Micro Grant is open for submissions year-round, providing applicants with flexibility in timing and responsiveness to program needs. This structure facilitates more accessible grantmaking and fosters continued community engagement.
To qualify, applicants must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and must have operated for at least three years. The Foundation supports capital improvements and other direct costs tied to the mission or core activities of the organization. Entities that do not hold 501(c)(3) status, such as private foundations, individuals, political campaigns, or lobbying-focused groups, are not eligible. Additionally, organizations may only submit one grant request per twelve-month period, regardless of grant type.
The Micro Grant process requires the submission of basic documentation including a formal project proposal, the IRS determination letter, the most recent 990 form, and current financial statements. All applications must be submitted electronically via the Foundation’s official grant portal, although accommodations are available for those needing assistance. Incomplete proposals may delay the review process.
Grant recipients are expected to comply with standard reporting requirements and provide documentation of how funds are used. While multi-year awards are not typical, exceptions may be made under special circumstances. Interested applicants should consult the full guidelines and direct any inquiries to the Foundation’s primary contact at foundation@columbiabankonline.com.
Only complete electronic applications will be considered. One proposal per organization is allowed per rolling 12-month period.
