The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is offering the FreshConnect CSA for SNAP Program grant under RFA#0367, providing financial support to organizations that help Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants access fresh, locally grown farm products through the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model. The program aims to support New York State producers, expand food access for SNAP participants, and strengthen connections between farmers and low-income communities.
A total of $250,000 in funding is available, with individual grant awards ranging between $25,000 and $50,000. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. The application submission deadline is 3:00 PM on July 22, 2025. The program will cover 50% of the cost of CSA shares purchased by SNAP recipients using SNAP benefits. Additionally, administrative expenses are eligible for funding but cannot exceed 30% of the total award.
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, Indian tribal organizations, public educational institutions, and local or municipal governments. Ineligible applicants include for-profit organizations and individuals. Applicants must be registered and prequalified in the Statewide Financial System (SFS) before applying. Additionally, applicants must identify farm producers involved in the CSA and vendors directly accepting SNAP payments for CSA shares.
The grant funds can be used for CSA share cost reimbursement, administrative expenses (such as wages and equipment under $5,000), lease or rent of vehicles, and food transportation costs. However, funds cannot be used for indirect costs, salaries unrelated to the proposal, construction, SNAP scrip (tokens), equipment over $5,000, or food sourced outside New York State.
Applications must be submitted online via the Statewide Financial System Grants Management System (SFS GMS). Late or mailed submissions will not be accepted. The program requires compliance with New York State Workers’ Compensation and Disability Insurance requirements, as well as registration with the NYS Charities Bureau for nonprofit organizations.
