Outdoor Equity Fund 2026

The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division (NMORD), under the Economic Development Department of New Mexico, administers the Outdoor Equity Fund to promote equitable access to outdoor experiences for youth. This pioneering fund was launched in 2019 to dismantle barriers preventing young people—particularly those from rural, Indigenous, and underserved communities—from accessing New Mexico’s natural resources. The objective is to nurture the next generation of conservation leaders through programs that emphasize outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and cultural connection. The Outdoor Equity Fund supports transformative experiences in nature that connect youth to the state’s lands, waters, and cultural heritage. These experiences also aim to inspire interest in outdoor recreation career pathways, supporting long-term economic and community development. The funding may be used to facilitate outdoor programming that promotes health, well-being, and respect for the environment. This opportunity is open to organizations based in New Mexico, with a focus on those serving underserved youth populations. While full eligibility details are contained in the grant guide, historically funded organizations include nonprofits, tribal organizations, and other local institutions. Since its inception, the fund has enabled over 83,000 young people to engage with the outdoors. The FY26 Round 1 application period opens on June 1, 2025, and closes on July 31, 2025. A second application round will open January 1, 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to join informational webinars on June 12 and July 15, 2025.
