Grant Description

The Richard S. Reynolds Foundation, founded in Richmond, Virginia, in 1955, continues the legacy of Richard S. Reynolds, a visionary known for turning challenges into opportunities. The Foundation, led by a Board of Trustees, is dedicated to strengthening both local and global communities through philanthropic support. With deep roots in the Richmond area, the Foundation honors Reynolds’ legacy by supporting impactful community causes and fostering future generations through charitable giving. The Foundation’s funding interests encompass a diverse range of sectors, including science, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and the arts. These areas reflect the Foundation's commitment to enriching the social fabric and enhancing the well-being of communities it serves. Emphasis is placed on strategic investments that extend beyond routine operational support to foster sustainable and transformational change. To be eligible for consideration, organizations must be recognized as tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3). The Foundation does not support annual or operational expenses, nor does it accept applications submitted through a fiscal sponsor. Most funding is directed to efforts within the Greater Richmond area, though proposals with broader or global significance are also considered. Applicants must adhere strictly to these eligibility guidelines to be considered for funding. The application process is managed online only, with paper proposals no longer accepted. Interested organizations must first verify their eligibility and determine whether to submit a letter of inquiry or a full grant application. Applications must be received by April 15 for review at the May Board meeting or by October 15 for review at the November Board meeting. Applicants will be notified of the Foundation’s decision within two weeks of the Board meeting if approved, or within thirty days if not approved. For any questions regarding the grant application process, organizations can contact the Foundation via email at grants@richardsreynoldsfoundation.org or reach out directly to Victoria at the Foundation’s office. The office is located at 1403 Pemberton Road, Suite 102, Richmond, VA 23238, and can be contacted by phone at 804-740-7350.
