Grant Description

The JT-Minnie Maude Charitable Trust (JTMM) is a private philanthropic organization that has been supporting the communities of Danville, Virginia, and Pittsylvania County since its founding in 2007. Over the years, the Trust has disbursed more than $18 million in grants to organizations and government agencies working to improve the quality of life in these regions. JTMM is guided by a Board of Trustees, which plays a central role in evaluating and awarding grants. As a place-based funder, JTMM has a clear geographic focus, mandating that all grant activities ultimately benefit residents of Danville and/or Pittsylvania County. The grant program is open to a wide array of eligible entities, including nonprofits and governmental agencies that qualify to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions and are in good standing with the IRS. Religious institutions and schools may also apply, provided that the funded activities serve the broader community rather than a specific congregation or school group. However, funding is not available for the support of scholarship programs run by other organizations, nor may it be used for political purposes or activities intended to influence legislation or electoral outcomes. JTMM accepts applications once per year, with a single annual deadline of August 1st. There is no thematic or sectoral restriction imposed by the Trust; applicants may request funding for a range of purposes, as long as their proposals serve the residents within the Trust’s defined geographic service area. Importantly, while there are no set caps on award amounts, applicants are expected to request the total funding necessary to complete their proposed project or program within one year of receiving the grant payment. JTMM may choose to fund all, part, or none of the requested amount. All other funding sources and collaborators must be disclosed in the application. Applications are submitted online through the JTMM application portal. First-time applicants must create an account as an “Organization” to access the portal. Once logged in, the grant application form is located under the “Opportunities” tab. Organizations may submit more than one grant request in a given cycle, either as separate applications for unrelated projects or a single application covering multiple, related components. In such cases, applicants are encouraged to prioritize project components clearly within their application. All applicants will be notified in writing of their award status approximately three to four months after the application deadline. Successful applicants will receive a formal award letter along with a grant agreement outlining the terms of the funding. After returning the signed agreement, grantees receive payment directly from JTMM. Within one year of receipt, awardees are required to submit a post-grant report through the same portal. Extensions may be granted for reporting, but must be pre-approved. The Trust welcomes contact from potential applicants seeking guidance and is open to scheduling meetings to discuss prospective projects. Interested applicants are encouraged to consult the FAQs on the JTMM website to confirm the most up-to-date eligibility and application guidance. JTMM’s offices are located at 223 Riverview Drive, Suite G, Danville, VA 24541, and are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Telephone inquiries can be directed to 434.797.3330.
