The Whitewater Community Foundation offers Community Action Grants (CAG) twice annually to support projects that align with the Foundation's mission to enhance the quality of life for residents of Whitewater, Wisconsin. The grants are intended for initiatives that are educational, cultural, charitable, or otherwise beneficial to the broader community. Applicants may include nonprofit organizations, school-affiliated groups, and other community-serving entities. Funding decisions are made by the Foundation's Board of Directors and are based on a clear rubric that considers impact, feasibility, and alignment with community goals.
The Foundation accepts applications during two cycles each year: spring and fall. Deadlines are April 30 for spring submissions and October 31 for fall submissions. Funding decisions are typically announced by May 31 and November 30, respectively. Grants are awarded from the Foundation’s unrestricted General Fund, which is limited in size. The Foundation prioritizes projects that can be completed within one year and that demonstrate creativity, community benefit, and alignment with the Foundation’s areas of focus, including education, the arts, economic development, and public service.
Organizations applying must provide the following attachments: most recent financial statement (audited if available), a current operating budget, IRS determination letter (501(c)(3)), a list of board members with affiliations, and signed letters of support if collaborating with another organization. If the applicant uses a fiscal sponsor, a letter of agreement and IRS documentation for both entities is required.
The Foundation does not fund ongoing operating expenses, salaries, endowments, political campaigns, debt reduction, or individuals (except via scholarships). Completed applications should be submitted via email to info@whitewatercommunityfoundation.org or mailed to P.O. Box 428, Whitewater, WI 53190. Applications must be signed by a supervisor where applicable—such as school district or city representatives.
Awardees are eligible to apply again on an annual basis, provided they submit evidence of successful completion of the prior grant. The Whitewater Community Foundation also offers fiscal sponsorship to community organizations that lack 501(c)(3) status, enabling them to receive grant funds through the Foundation as a pass-through entity.
