Grant Description

The Human Relations Awards, presented annually by the Fort Collins Human Relations Commission, celebrate individuals and organizations that contribute to advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility within the community. Established over forty years ago, the awards have long recognized local efforts that foster social cohesion, community engagement, and meaningful change in Fort Collins and Larimer County. In a time of increasing social polarization and inequity, these awards take on renewed significance by elevating the work of those who champion underrepresented voices and promote community resilience. The 2025 awards will be given in four distinct categories: the Individual Award, the Organization/Team Award (open to both nonprofit and for-profit entities), the Youth Award for individuals 18 years or younger, and the Rising Star Award. Nominations are now open and will remain available until October 31, 2025. Submissions are evaluated based on the nominee's demonstrated impact in serving underserved populations, motivating others to create positive change, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment, and building partnerships that advance equity-focused initiatives. While there is no formal residency requirement for nominees, all nominations must reflect a clear and measurable impact on the Fort Collins and/or Larimer County community. To maintain fairness and encourage diverse recognition, individuals or organizations that received an award in the same category within the last four years are ineligible for nomination in that specific category in 2025. However, they may be considered in a different category. Eligible nominations must align with the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). Selection criteria include the nomineeโ€™s effectiveness in reaching underserved communities, ability to serve as a role model for social change, and success in building collaborative networks that further IDEA values in the local context. The nomination process is open to the public and provides an opportunity to uplift voices and stories that might otherwise go unrecognized. The Fort Collins Human Relations Commission encourages community members to participate in identifying individuals and groups whose work strengthens the social fabric of the region. Winners will be honored in a formal ceremony that underscores their contributions to fostering a more equitable and inclusive society.
