The FruitGuys Community Fund Grant
This grant provides funding to small farms and agricultural nonprofits in the U.S. for sustainability projects that benefit the community, with a focus on initiatives led by BIPOC individuals.
The Farm Growers and Cultivators Fund (FGCF) has opened its 2026 grant cycle, extending an invitation to small farms and agricultural nonprofits across the United States to apply for funding. This initiative is designed to support sustainable agriculture practices that emphasize environmental responsibility, community impact, and practical innovation. FGCF is committed to advancing the future of farming by investing in projects that are rooted in ecological sustainability and long-term land stewardship. The current grant cycle offers awards of up to $5,000 to eligible applicants. These include farm owner-operators or individuals with long-term, legal access to land not exceeding 250 acres. For leased land, applicants must provide a support letter from the landowner that confirms the lease duration. For-profit farms must have been actively operating for at least two years. In addition, 501(c)(3) agricultural nonprofit organizations may apply if they have been in operation for a minimum of three years, and must provide documentation of their tax-exempt status as well as a current board list. Only one application per farm or organization is permitted during this cycle. Prior FGCF grant recipients are not eligible for funding again. Projects must be capable of being completed by December of the award year, and applicants must submit a detailed project description, itemized budget, and project timeline. Grant funding cannot be used for hydroponic or aquaponic systems, land purchases, labor, consultants, administrative expenses, general marketing, one-time events, or any initiative that depends on other grant sources for full implementation. FGCF places strong emphasis on funding efforts that reflect sustainable agricultural practices and demonstrate clear community benefit. The fund’s Farming Manifesto and a repository of past funded projects are available for reference to guide proposal development. While the grant is open to applicants nationwide, FGCF gives modest preference to projects located in states that have not yet received funding in previous grant cycles. For the 2026 cycle, those preferential states include Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, and Utah. Although these states are prioritized, farms in all states remain eligible and are encouraged to apply. Slight priority will be given to projects from up to three new states per cycle. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, January 30, 2026. The funding decision timeline follows a structured schedule: grant awards will be distributed in May; an interim report from awardees is due in August; projects must be completed by December; and a final report is required in January 2027. This reporting structure ensures transparency, accountability, and a strong foundation for program evaluation. This opportunity provides small farms and agricultural nonprofits with a chance to implement practical, sustainable farming initiatives that serve both the environment and their communities. FGCF encourages applicants to review previous projects and carefully prepare their materials in alignment with the fund’s values and requirements before submission.
