Fund for Islamic Understanding, Education and Dialogue

The Fund for Islamic Understanding, Education, and Dialogue, managed by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, supports projects that promote understanding of Muslims and the Islamic faith through educational programming and direct service projects. These initiatives aim to foster opportunities for Muslims and non-Muslims to work together and engage in interpersonal dialogue. Multi-faith events are eligible if they place significant emphasis on the Islamic faith. Grants of up to $5,000 are available, awarded on a competitive basis. Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Proposals must detail the project’s purpose, implementation plans, evaluation criteria, sustainability strategies, and budget. The project should clearly articulate its goals, the population served, and the number of individuals impacted. Applications must include organizational background information, including mission, history, and a list of programs and services. The annual application deadline is February 15. Proposals must be submitted via the foundation’s online portal and include attachments such as a board member list, IRS tax-exemption letter, financial statements (audited or unaudited within the past 18 months), and a current operating budget. Proposals submitted via email, fax, or mail will not be reviewed, and incomplete submissions will be disqualified. Grants are reviewed by the foundation’s staff and Board of Trustees, with applicants notified of decisions approximately four months after the deadline. Expenses incurred before approval are not eligible for funding. Since grants are awarded competitively, they should not be viewed as a recurring source of support.
