Open Hearts Foundation Grant
This grant provides financial support to small nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that are led by individuals who have overcome personal challenges and are now dedicated to serving their communities through impactful programs.
The Open Hearts Foundation is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting grassroots charitable initiatives inspired by the Open Hearts Philosophy. This philosophy emphasizes transforming personal adversity into meaningful service to others. The Foundation funds nonprofit organizations founded by individuals or small volunteer groups who have faced significant challenges and are now helping their communities through impactful programs. In addition to grant funding, the Foundation provides wraparound support such as increased visibility, shared learning, storytelling, volunteer engagement, and access to tools that help grantees thrive. The 2025 grant program consists of two funding cycles, with a total annual goal of $300,000 in grants. For the current cycle, between $100,000 and $150,000 will be awarded, with the remainder distributed in the final cycle. Grants typically range between $15,000 and $25,000 per nonprofit per year. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating within the United States, with a minimum of two years of fiscally healthy operations and demonstrated program success. Priority is given to nonprofits with annual budgets of $1 million or less, although larger organizations may be considered if applying for new initiatives that address emerging community needs. Funding cannot be used for direct aid to individuals, governmental agencies, political or lobbying activities, faith-based programming or religious organizations, discriminatory organizations, or capital campaigns and building projects. The grant’s scope includes program or project expenses aligned with the nonprofit’s mission and consistent with the Foundation’s philosophy. The application process follows a two-step procedure. First, applicants must complete eligibility questions and submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) through the Foundation’s online application platform. The LOI must state the organization’s mission and strategic goal, describe the program or project, identify the community served and intended impact, and explain the nonprofit’s founding story in relation to the Open Hearts Philosophy. The LOI must be submitted by August 15, 2025. The Foundation reviews LOIs to determine eligibility for the full application phase. If invited to proceed, applicants must submit a full proposal by August 21, 2025, through the same platform, providing details of their funding request along with required documentation, including IRS Form 990, annual budgets for the past two years, and an itemized program budget with revenue and expense details. All materials must be complete for the application to be considered. For the current cycle, applicants will be notified of funding decisions by September 20, 2025. The Foundation does not accept phone calls regarding individual funding decisions, but application-related questions may be directed to info@openheartsfoundation.org. The Foundation encourages prospective applicants to engage with its social media channels for updates and inspiration. The grant program is designed to build lasting partnerships with nonprofits that embody the spirit of resilience and service, providing both financial and non-financial support to strengthen community impact. The Open Hearts Foundation’s office is located at 2637 Townsgate Road, Suite 200, Westlake Village, California 91361, and can be reached at (805) 852-1367.
