The Alabama Power Foundation Grant supports a broad range of initiatives within Alabama Power’s service territory. These initiatives include Educational Advancement, Civic and Community Development, Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Health and Human Services, and Environmental Stewardship. The foundation operates as a private philanthropic arm of the Alabama Power Company, focused on creating long-term improvements in Alabama communities.
The grant program is structured around two annual cycles, with application deadlines typically in December and June, and award notifications announced approximately three months afterward. Applicants seeking under $10,000 are encouraged to contact regional division representatives, while those requesting higher amounts may apply through the foundation’s online portal. Applications not completed through a logged-in session cannot be saved.
Applications must demonstrate alignment with one or more of the foundation’s five core initiatives. Proposals should exhibit potential for broad community impact, long-term benefit, collaborative efforts, and fiscal responsibility. The foundation will not fully fund projects, preferring initiatives that attract multiple sources of financial support. Projects aimed at underserved populations are prioritized.
The application process requires submission of several documents including the organization’s EIN, contact details, mission statement, a comprehensive project description, budget, list of other contributors, a recent audited financial statement or three years of Form 990, current operating budget, and the board of directors’ list with employer information.
Certain restrictions apply, including exclusions for political entities, utility bills, religious programs with limited public benefit, private schools, and organizations already receiving multi-year support. Previously supported organizations must wait until their current grant term ends before reapplying.
