Grant Description

The Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF), based in Hancock, Michigan, has opened its Spring 2026 Grants program to support community-driven initiatives throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula. As a locally rooted philanthropic organization, KCF is committed to enhancing quality of life in the region by funding programs across youth development, early childhood education, sports, and general community impact. This year’s funding pool totals $68,000 and includes a significant contribution of $50,000 from KCF’s recently established Community Impact Fund, made possible through a major donor gift. The remaining funds are allocated across several targeted sub-funds supporting youth hockey, early childhood development, and youth-oriented initiatives. Applications will open on March 1, 2026, and close on April 10, 2026, at 11:30 PM EST. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, religious institutions, educational entities, and government agencies. To qualify, projects must benefit the Keweenaw Peninsula, unless otherwise stated, and comply with KCF’s Non-discrimination Policy. KCF will host a Grant Open House on March 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Hancock Community Hub to answer applicant questions and provide guidance on current and future grant opportunities. The Community Impact Fund has up to $50,000 available, and individual applicants may apply for up to $10,000 for programs that help communities thrive. Additional funding includes $1,000 from the CLK Youth Hockey Fund for programs located in Calumet, Laurium, and Keweenaw; $3,000 from the Great Start Early Childhood Fund targeting early education initiatives in Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw Counties; and $14,000 from the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund focused on youth programming in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. Applicants may apply for support from multiple funds if their project aligns with more than one area. Required components of the application process include an online submission via KCF’s portal. Selected grantees will be required to sign an acceptance agreement and submit a written request to receive disbursement. A project report, including a narrative update and project photos (with proper consent), must be submitted within 30 days of fund expenditure or upon project completion. Grant funds should be used within 12 months of the award date, or the award may be rescinded. Notifications of awards will be made by late May 2026. KCF has also introduced a new online system for grant reporting beginning in 2025 to streamline documentation and accountability. Organizations interested in staying informed about future grant opportunities are encouraged to join the Foundation’s mailing list by completing the contact form on its website. Any questions related to the program should be directed to Madelina DiLisi, Director of Programs, via [email protected] or (906) 231-6473.
