UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Grants
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations and municipalities in Virginia to develop innovative projects that address cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship support in local communities.
The University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 57 comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. It is dedicated not only to providing high-quality patient care and conducting cutting-edge research but also to reducing the impact of cancer through prevention, early detection, and support for survivorship. The center views outreach, education, and community collaboration as essential components of its mission. It values community input and innovative ideas that can help to address and prevent cancer and improve survivorship outcomes. The Comprehensive Community Grants Program is designed to enable community partners to address cancer-related health disparities using innovative approaches. The program seeks to harness the strengths of Virginia communities to reduce the cancer burden and promote optimal health among residents. Community engagement and collaboration are central to the program’s approach, with a focus on prevention, early detection, and quality survivorship. For the 2025 funding cycle, the program will award up to four grants of $10,000 each. Each grant will support a 12-month project specifically aimed at addressing cancer burden within local communities. Organizations are limited to submitting one application each. The funding must be used for new initiatives or for new components of existing projects; routine or ongoing activities are not eligible for funding. Eligible applicants include registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and municipalities that serve residents within the UVACCC catchment area. The program also encourages applications from a broad range of community-based organizations, advocacy groups, faith-based institutions, neighborhood committees, academic institutions, and hospitals, including safety net institutions. To be competitive, proposals should address cancer health promotion, prevention, early detection, risk factors, or survivorship within the catchment area and should align with the priority recommendations of the UVACCC Community Advisory Council as well as community health disparities. The application process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI), which must be submitted by 5 pm EST on July 31, 2025, via the online portal. Applicants selected to proceed will be notified by August 22, 2025, and invited to submit a full proposal by September 20, 2025. The selection criteria emphasize alignment with best practices, responsiveness to community needs, and contribution to addressing disparities. For additional information, applicants are encouraged to contact the grant administrators at cancerinfo@uvahealth.org. The grant opportunity is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025, with specific timelines and funding priorities to be announced. Interested applicants should monitor for updates regarding the full application timeline.
