Grant Description

The REALTOR Foundation, the charitable arm of the MIBOR REALTOR Association, has been investing in organizations serving people experiencing homelessness in central Indiana since 2003. Their mission is to support local nonprofits solving homelessness, with a vision of a community where everyone has a safe place to call home. To date, the Foundation has distributed over $3 million in grants, with funds raised from the local real estate community. Their focus is on funding housing needs and supportive services for residents of central Indiana who are homeless, due to circumstances such as domestic violence, mental or physical illness, addiction, income loss, or other causes leading to housing instability. The Foundation’s grant program emphasizes permanent housing solutions, including moving individuals into transitional or affordable rental housing, and providing the wrap-around services needed for long-term stability. Funded projects can include general operating support, case management, mentoring or life skills programs, children’s resources, and expansion projects. Regardless of the project type, applicants must demonstrate measurable impact, such as the number of people served, rates of permanent housing, reduced recidivism, and improvements in education or income. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $15,000, with a maximum request of $20,000 per project. The number and size of awards depend on available funding. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations serving Boone, Brown, Decatur, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, or Shelby Counties in Indiana. The Foundation prioritizes organizations that directly provide housing solutions. Applicants without a housing program component must show measurable outcomes that reduce, prevent, or work to solve homelessness. Only nonprofits are eligible—individuals, businesses, and government entities are not. The application process is managed online via SmarterSelect. The 2026 grant cycle opens on June 2, 2025. For organizations that did not receive a grant in 2025, a Letter of Intent (LOI) is due by July 25, 2025. Current grantees are not required to submit an LOI. Selected applicants will receive an invitation to submit a full application by August 1, 2025, and the deadline for the full grant application is September 12, 2025, at midnight. Notification of funding decisions is expected in November 2025, grants will be disbursed in December 2025, and final reports are due in January 2026. A midterm report is due in July 2026 for current grantees. In addition to project funding, the Foundation offers the Steve Sullivan Professional Development Fund, providing support for training in grant writing, program evaluation, board development, strategic planning, leadership, and trauma-informed care. Organizations interested in this support should complete the professional development questionnaire at the end of the main application. All applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project with the Foundation prior to submission. For questions or to schedule a discussion, contact Julie Randall, Executive Director, at JulieRandall@mibor.com or 317-956-5255. Applications must be submitted online, and details can be reviewed on the Foundation's website. Organizations are responsible for meeting all deadlines and requirements, as late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
