Grant Description

BGE's Community Safety Grants program reflects the organization’s deep commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees, customers, and the broader community it serves. BGE, a regional energy utility company, emphasizes safety as a core value embedded in its operational culture. Recognizing that strong, resilient neighborhoods contribute to the overall safety and quality of life, the Community Safety Grants aim to strategically invest in initiatives that strengthen emergency preparedness, foster safe environments, and build resilience within communities served by BGE. The grant program supports nonprofit organizations that are registered as 501(c)(3) entities and whose proposed projects are located within the BGE service territory. Projects funded under this initiative must be completed by June 2, 2027, and should address at least one of the focus areas outlined by BGE. These focus areas include Neighborhood and Community Placemaking, Safe Spaces, and Emergency Response and Resilience. Projects under the placemaking category might include improvements such as enhanced lighting for alleys or upgrades to public gathering spaces to promote safe and vibrant community engagement. Safe Spaces initiatives may focus on mental and emotional well-being, home safety awareness, or diversion programs for youth. Emergency Response and Resilience efforts could encompass climate mitigation strategies, emergency training, air and water quality improvement, or the establishment of resiliency hubs. Grant requests can range between $2,500 and $10,000. BGE explicitly excludes applications that seek funding for basic operational costs or capital projects. In addition to meeting the eligibility and geographic criteria, applicants must clearly demonstrate collaborative efforts with emergency responders and provide a detailed project budget outlining the use of requested funds. The application period for the 2026 funding cycle closes on March 22, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances. All applicants will receive notification regarding the status of their proposal by June 1, 2026. It is also important to note that organizations awarded a Community Safety Grant in this cycle will not be eligible for a second award in 2026. The application process requires submission of a full proposal through the designated platform, along with all required documentation. BGE prioritizes funding for innovative and collaborative programs that address urgent community safety needs and demonstrate a clear impact. The performance period for selected projects extends through mid-2027, allowing sufficient time for implementation and impact measurement. This recurring opportunity demonstrates BGE’s ongoing investment in building safer, more resilient communities within its service region.
