Grant Description

The Love Your Block (LYB) Grants program is a neighborhood improvement initiative managed by the City of Phoenix’s Neighborhood Services Department. It is designed to strengthen community cohesion and build neighborhood capacity by supporting small-scale projects that directly benefit local residents. Each year, eight neighborhood groups listed with the Neighborhood LINK program are selected to receive up to $5,000 in grant funding to carry out a community-based project. The LYB program emphasizes community ownership and sustainability. In addition to financial support, awardees are given access to City resources and subject matter experts to help ensure the successful execution of their projects. This approach not only improves neighborhoods but also builds local leadership and long-term engagement among residents. To be eligible, applicant groups must be actively registered with the City of Phoenix’s Neighborhood LINK. Proposed projects must serve a public benefit, be accessible to neighborhood residents, and include a maintenance and sustainability plan. If the project is to take place on private property, applicants must provide a letter of permission from the property owner. Groups are required to send three to six representatives to an LYB workshop and complete their project within six months of receiving the grant. Applications for the 2025 cycle are being accepted from April 15 through May 12, 2025. Each applicant must include a detailed project scope and budget, demonstrate how the project will serve the community, and provide a plan to sustain its impact over time. A toolkit with example projects is available to assist applicants in designing thoughtful and transformative initiatives. The grant program is made possible through partnerships with the City of Phoenix Water Services and Public Works departments. LYB-funded projects in past years have included murals, branded curb address numbers, community gardens, neighborhood sign toppers, and public art installations. These projects reflect the program's commitment to placemaking and neighborhood revitalization. For questions about the program, applicants are encouraged to contact the LYB team at loveyourblock@phoenix.gov. Additional program materials, including previous project look books and a toolkit, are available on the City of Phoenix’s website under the Neighborhood Services Department’s grant opportunities section.
