Arlington County Food Security Mini-Grants 2026
This funding opportunity provides financial support to eligible organizations working to improve food access and nutrition equity for residents of Arlington County, Virginia.
Arlington County Department of Human Services is offering FY26 Food Security Mini-Grants to support the implementation of the county's Food Security Strategic Plan. This initiative aligns with the county's efforts to address food access, nutrition equity, and food system resilience within Arlington. Published in October 2022, the Strategic Plan outlines 28 strategies across five categories, and this funding supports eligible organizations aiming to advance those specific goals. A total of $150,000 is available in this round, with a maximum of $25,000 per project. This opportunity is open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, public institutions of higher education, PTAs, and faith-based organizations that meet eligibility criteria. While applicants can be based outside Arlington, their project must directly benefit Arlington County residents. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2026. Eligible projects must support at least one of the Strategic Plan strategies, such as enhancing school-based food support, increasing food rescue capacity, providing trauma-informed training, or expanding SNAP outreach. Funding can be used for direct expenses such as food, supplies, transportation, equipment, and even staffing. Awards are reimbursed quarterly, and grantees are required to submit detailed quarterly financial and programmatic reports. These reports track demographics, services provided, and project impact. Applications must be submitted electronically via Submittable no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 10, 2025. The application includes narrative sections detailing the project description, target population, need assessment, evaluation approach, and budget. A budget worksheet and proof of 501(c)(3) status are also required. The grant application is scored using a 5-point rubric evaluating project clarity, alignment with goals, collaboration, population impact, and data methodology. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the virtual information session scheduled for June 9, 2025. Questions should be directed to Stephanie Hopkins, Food Security Coordinator, at shopkins@arlingtonva.us or (703) 228-1065. A summary of questions and answers will be posted on the grant website. This is the third round of funding and is expected to recur annually. The next round is anticipated to open around June 2026, with an internal check recommended for May 2026.
