County of San Mateo Microfood Grant Program
This program provides financial assistance to small businesses in San Mateo County that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, helping them cover operating expenses and recover from revenue losses.
The County of San Mateo Microfood Grant Program in California provides funding for qualifying establishments to offset revenue losses and past debt resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic state shutdown orders. The grant aims to support continued operation and assist in covering current business operating expenses. The California Office of the Small Business Advocate has released new grant funding to benefit microbusinesses in San Mateo County. Applications accepted between March 11, 2022 and April 11, 2022. To qualify for this grant, you must have a business located in San Mateo County. You must have started the business before Dec. 31, 2019; the business must have been the main source of the business owner’s income in 2019; the business must be legally operating (i.e. paying sales tax, registered with the state as appropriate); and the business must have fewer than five employees (in 2019, 2020 and now).

The businesses must meet the following criteria: The business has not received a County small business grant in the past 12 months; Demonstrate that the business was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic Has a valid business license if one is offered and any other permitting licenses such as Environmental Health, State ABC, etc., Was legally operating on January 1, 2021, and is currently providing food service or sale of food or beverage related goods, Owner of business owns no more than 5 qualifying businesses within the jurisdictional boundaries of San Mateo County, The owner of the business must either live in San Mateo County or operate their business in San Mateo County Legal residency is not a condition of approval and no information will be shared with other government agencies. Priority will be given to applicants who are members of a household that had a 2020 gross household income at or below 100% of Area Median Income (“AMI”) (excluding applicants applying as commissaries and incubator kitchens), as demonstrated by tax returns, with AMI household data as follows: Household of 1: $121,800 Household of 2: $139,200 Household of 3: $156,600 Household of 4: $174,000 Household of 5: $188,000 Household of 6: $201,900 Household of 7: $215,800 Household of 8: $229,700 For more information, visit Microfood Business Grant.
