The foundation’s grant cycle begins with an application and grant report portal opening on March 1, with submissions due by June 1. Funding decisions are made by September 22. Grants are awarded for a one-year period, and applicants are expected to complete an annual report detailing the grant’s impact on youth athletic participation. Previous grantees must fulfill all reporting obligations before being considered for new funding.
Starting in 2025, the application includes a new question about the percentage of the organization’s programming dedicated to athletics. This information is used to better understand the organization’s focus and to tailor follow-up questions appropriately. The foundation’s funding is unrestricted and supports operational costs, staffing, training, program development, expansion efforts, capital expenditures such as equipment and facilities, and strategic fundraising planning.
The average grant awarded ranges from $7,500 to $10,000, though amounts as low as $3,000 may be given. While each application is considered individually, partial funding is common, particularly for first-time applicants. Organizations are encouraged to align their requests with a sustainable fundraising strategy.
