Grant Description

The Compass Society 2025 Grant is administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, an organization dedicated to enhancing quality of life in the Greater Huntsville area through visionary, collaborative philanthropy. The Compass Society serves as a catalyst for regional progress by supporting ambitious, community-driven initiatives that are future-focused and designed to foster long-term, sustainable impact. This grant opportunity calls on community organizations to unite around bold ideas that improve the lives of current and future generations. The grant is aligned with the Community Foundation’s Quality of Life Framework, which spans eight focus areas: Arts & Culture, Basic Needs, Economic Opportunity, Education, Environment, Health & Wellness, Neighborhoods & Communities, and Recreation. Funded projects are expected to make a measurable difference in three or more of these areas, and must demonstrate the potential for a scalable, ripple-effect transformation across the community. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) public charities, or qualified schools, religious institutions, or government agencies using the funds for a public purpose, all located within the Greater Huntsville area. This area includes Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties in Alabama. Applications must feature at least three collaborating partners, though not all need to be nonprofits, to encourage a multi-sector, unified approach to solving community challenges. The Compass Society will award $50,000 to selected proposals. These funds may be used for program costs, whether for new or existing initiatives, as well as staff and volunteer time and training associated with program implementation. However, funds cannot be used for individual grants, debt reduction, endowment campaigns, fundraising events or campaigns, conference expenses, or political activities, including lobbying and electioneering. The grant process begins with a Letter of Intent (LOI) submission, due by 5:00 p.m. CT on Monday, June 30, 2025, through an online portal. Applicants will be notified of decisions in early August, with 10-15 selected to submit full applications by September 15, 2025. Final decisions will be made in late October, and checks will be presented on GivingTuesday 2025. All grantees will be required to sign a Grant Agreement outlining outcome reporting and use of funds. For questions, applicants may contact Ann Kvach at 256-489-3525 or by email at ann@givehsv.org.
