The Community Relations Innovation Small Grant Program, administered by the City of Upper Arlington, Ohio, is an annual initiative guided by the Community Relations Committee (CRC). Established in 2019, the CRC was formed to promote understanding, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging among all residents. The Innovation Small Grant Program was launched in 2022 to foster innovative, community-based initiatives aligned with the CRC's purpose, mission, and vision. This includes enhancing appreciation, communication, and inclusivity within Upper Arlington and throughout Central Ohio.
This program supports community events and programs that align with one or more core goals: increasing knowledge and appreciation of diversity (Information), fostering positive engagement between non-residents and the UA community (Identity), and strengthening a sense of inclusion, particularly among underrepresented or disconnected residents (Inclusion). Applicants may request between $1,000 and $5,000 in funding for new or enhanced projects that serve the public interest and embody the CRC’s ideals.
Eligible applicants must demonstrate how their proposed programs align with CRC objectives, are nondiscriminatory, and serve a public purpose. Funding is generally limited to one year, though programs may be funded for up to two consecutive years in some cases. Applications are evaluated based on alignment with the CRC goals, community impact, program structure, management and fiscal responsibility, and the applicant’s capacity to deliver.
To apply, organizations must complete the official application form and submit it between October 31 and December 12, 2025. Submissions can be sent by mail to the City Manager’s Office or via email to the provided contacts. Selected applicants will be chosen with input from CRC members, with consideration given to project diversity and reduction of overlap.
Applicants are required to provide a final report by November 13, 2026, including expenditure documentation, narrative summaries, performance metrics, and participant feedback. Ongoing engagement strategies and long-term sustainability plans are also considered in the application. The program encourages the involvement of community partners and volunteers and emphasizes transparency in fiscal and programmatic execution.
Emphasize alignment with the CRC’s goals (Information, Identity, Inclusion); clearly outline program impact and how success will be measured.
