Community Benefits Grant

The Community Benefits Grant offered by Soroptimist International of La Grande (SILG) is a targeted funding opportunity designed to uplift women and girls in Union County, Oregon. Rooted in the Soroptimist mission of promoting social and economic empowerment, this grant supports nonprofit, community-driven programs that create meaningful, measurable improvements in the lives of local women and girls. SILG is a local chapter of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization that works to ensure that every woman and girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential and live her dreams. This grant program provides up to $5,000 per application to support community-based efforts that deliver educational, mentorship, and life-skills opportunities. Projects must align with the organization's mission by empowering women and girls through education or enhancing their access to essential resources. Eligible projects might include workshops, outreach initiatives, or programs offering practical training and tools to improve self-sufficiency and quality of life. The program emphasizes community impact and encourages creative, inclusive approaches that support long-term change. Permitted use of funds is specifically restricted to non-capital, mission-aligned programming. Examples include educational programs, life skills training, public awareness events, and necessary materials or supplies that support sustained engagement. However, funds cannot be used for capital improvements such as building renovations, permanent installations, landscaping, or any upgrades that increase private property value. Additionally, the program disallows funding for salaries, stipends, or administrative overhead, as well as expenses related to recreational sports, uniforms, travel, or disposable supplies. The grant application process runs annually from January 1 through May 1, with two review periods—March 1 and May 1—depending on when the application is submitted. All selected grantees will be expected to attend a recognition luncheon on June 18, 2026, at the Barrel Room in Island City to share updates on their programs. This provides a public platform to highlight funded efforts and strengthens community collaboration. Applicants must submit completed forms via email to [email protected]. While there is no requirement for a pre-application, applicants are asked to provide detailed information about the project, target populations (including gender and age breakdowns), budget, additional funding sources, and measurable outcomes. Grant recipients will be expected to uphold transparency, comply with usage guidelines, and promote SILG’s support via social media and other communications. The Community Benefits Grant is not a rolling opportunity but is offered on an annual basis. Given its recurring nature and the clearly defined next open window, it is considered an ongoing funding stream for eligible organizations in Union County, Oregon.
