Women Photograph Project Grants

Women Photograph has announced its 2025 Project Grants, funded through the support of MPB and Leica USA. These grants aim to support women, nonbinary, transgender, and intersex visual journalists who work in a documentary capacity. Central to Women Photograph’s mission is inclusivity, and the organization prioritizes elevating photographers from diverse backgrounds and geographies. Membership in Women Photograph is not a requirement for eligibility. The grant provides $5,000 in funding for photography projects that are either in development or already in progress. A total of five grants will be awarded, with at least one specifically allocated to a nonbinary or transgender photographer. The funding is intended to support hard costs associated with reporting, creative fees for the photographer, and any other expenses that facilitate the creation of new documentary work. However, the grant is not designed to support the production of books, exhibitions, workshops, or other secondary outputs. Applications are open to documentary photographers of any nationality who identify as women, nonbinary, transgender, or intersex. Applicants must submit their application in English, though use of translation tools like Google Translate is permitted. Each applicant is limited to one submission per open call. Applications must include a photo story, and while the images submitted do not need to be directly related to the proposed project, this must be clarified within the application. There is no fee to apply for this opportunity, and there are no restrictions on the type of camera equipment used. Grantees retain full ownership of their completed work, although Women Photograph, MPB, and Leica USA may request promotional use of select images to highlight the photographer, the work, and the grant itself. The application period begins on May 9, 2025, and the final deadline for submission is June 15, 2025. While the specific judging panel has not yet been announced, evaluation will be conducted by a selected jury. The grant provides an important opportunity for documentary photographers from underrepresented groups to receive financial support and visibility for their ongoing or new projects.
