The Postpartum Doula Grant, administered by the Omaha Better Birth Project, provides financial assistance to low-income or young pregnant individuals in the Omaha metro area seeking postpartum doula services. Each grant provides $1,200 to be used exclusively toward hiring a professionally certified postpartum doula.
Applicants must be between 15 and 32 weeks pregnant and planning to give birth at a hospital or birth center within the Omaha metro area. Eligibility is restricted to those who either meet the low-income guidelines as defined by Nebraska WIC, or who are 19 years old or younger. Verification of eligibility is required, and applicants must submit proof of income or age alongside identification.
Awardees may choose any professionally trained postpartum doula serving the Omaha metro. However, Omaha Better Birth Project maintains partnerships with doulas who agree to limit their service costs to $1,200. If a recipient hires a non-partner doula whose rates exceed the grant amount, the recipient is responsible for covering the additional cost.
The grant disburses funds in two payments: the first half ($600) is paid directly to the doula upon contract signing, and the second half ($600) after the birth. Recipients must submit required documentation, sign the grant agreement, select and hire a certified doula, and notify the organization of their choice. They must also comply with any contractual terms established between themselves and their doula.
All applicants will be contacted via email regarding the status of their application. For assistance, they can contact the Grants Program Coordinator, Becky, via email.
Use a partner doula to avoid paying out of pocket. Submit required verification early. Funds are disbursed directly to the doula, not to the applicant.
