Grant Description

The PATHS STEAM Educational Grant and Mentorship Program is an initiative developed to support and inspire LGBTQ+ youth and young adults interested in careers within the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). The program is administered by LGBT Tech, an organization committed to improving access and equity in technology and related industries for LGBTQ+ individuals. The PATHS program leverages both financial support and mentorship to foster long-term engagement in STEAM career paths, recognizing both the value of visibility and the importance of addressing structural and financial barriers faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. The primary purpose of this grant is to remove economic barriers that prevent LGBTQ+ individuals from successfully entering STEAM careers. These may include the cost of tuition, training programs, educational supplies, or research-related expenses. Applicants can request up to $2,500 to support educational or career-development endeavors directly tied to STEAM. The grant may be used for a range of qualifying activities, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies; continuing education programs; or professional certification and training through recognized institutions or entities offering STEAM skills development. Applicants must identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, be 18 years of age or older, and reside in the United States or U.S. territories. Eligibility further requires acceptance into or current participation in a STEAM program. Grant recipients are obligated to participate in the PATHS Mentorship Program for a minimum of nine months following receipt of funds. This mentorship component includes monthly meetings and career development workshops designed to equip recipients with tools, insights, and a professional network. Selected individuals must also commit to completing two impact surveys—one at the midpoint and another at the end of their mentorship period. Applications opened on August 13 and will close on September 2 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. They are available in both English and Spanish. There are no noted pre-application requirements or steps; however, incomplete applications and those containing false information will be automatically disqualified. All communications regarding the grant will be handled through email, and applicants are encouraged to reach out with questions to the designated Programs Coordinator. The evaluation process is handled internally by LGBT Tech staff, who will review submissions for completeness, financial need, and alignment with program objectives. Decisions will be made based on a holistic review of the application and understanding of the applicant’s financial needs and goals. Final award amounts may vary but will not exceed $2,500. The selection process is competitive, and decisions may take several weeks to finalize. Any inquiries regarding eligibility, program qualifications, or application specifics should be sent to Samantha Sygier, Programs Coordinator, via the contact email provided. Awardees are selected based on clear demonstration of need, a commitment to STEAM-related pursuits, and alignment with the values of the PATHS program.
