Grant Description

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation (GHCF) offers Quarterly Impact Grants to support smaller-scale, high-impact projects that meet the immediate needs of communities throughout Grays Harbor County. These grants are designed to be responsive and flexible, allowing local nonprofit organizations to act swiftly in addressing timely issues within the community. Formerly known as the Small Grants Program, this initiative aims to fund activities that align with GHCF’s Giving Priorities, with a special focus on projects that can be implemented quickly and make a tangible difference. The Quarterly Impact Grants provide up to $5,000 per request, enabling nonprofit organizations to carry out essential, smaller-scale efforts such as acquiring technology, purchasing supplies for shelters or feeding programs, or making minor facility improvements. Examples include educational materials for early learning, food for distribution programs, capacity-building efforts, and minor renovations. Importantly, organizations that have received funding through GHCF’s Community Building Grant (CBG) may still apply for a Quarterly Impact Grant, provided the application is for a different project. To ensure efficient use of resources, preference is given to projects that will utilize funds immediately or within two months of receipt. Each eligible organization, including school districts, may apply for only one Impact Grant per year, and school-related applications must be approved by the appropriate district officials. Funds cannot be used for fundraisers, endowments, re-granting, scholarships, or one-time activities such as school field trips (with rare exceptions). Applications are accepted quarterly, with submission deadlines on March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1. The grants are not intended to serve as recurring or annual funding sources. Organizations may receive only one grant every 12 months, and priority is given to applicants who have not recently received GHCF funding. Final reporting is required and is a critical factor for eligibility in future funding opportunities. The evaluation process places strong emphasis on project sustainability, organizational capacity, timing, and alignment with GHCF’s mission and funding priorities. Competitive proposals are expected to clearly articulate a pressing community need, demonstrate a well-thought-out implementation plan, include specific, measurable objectives, and offer evidence of a lasting community impact. Errors in budget alignment and lack of detailed narratives are common pitfalls that applicants should avoid. Interested organizations are encouraged to consult with GHCF’s Program Officer if they are unsure whether their project fits the grant parameters. For additional support, applicants can access resources such as grant writing tips and budget templates on the GHCF website. Questions may be directed to GHCF at (360) 532-1600.
