The Broadway Advocacy Coalition's Rapid Response Artivism Micro-Grant is designed to support individuals and collectives in creating impactful artivism projects that respond to issues of systemic racism and mass incarceration. The Coalition was established to merge the power of storytelling and policy change through collaboration between artists, legal experts, and advocates. Their micro-grant program aligns with this mission by encouraging narrative-based projects that incite meaningful change.
This funding opportunity provides $1,000 micro-grants to support the rapid development and launch of new artivism efforts within a two-month period. Projects must be newly conceived, not extensions or continuations of existing work. They must include a clear narrative framework, be action-oriented, and ensure that people directly affected by the issue are involved in the project's development. Projects may address local, national, or global concerns as long as they are related to systemic racism or mass incarceration.
Eligibility is open to artists, writers, organizers, activists, performers, and others interested in combining artistry with advocacy. There are no formal education or arts experience requirements, though preference is given to those who have previously participated in Broadway Advocacy Coalition programs. Both individual applicants and collectives are eligible to apply. Additionally, while all applicants are considered, priority is given to New York-based artivists and initiatives.
Applications must be submitted by Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:59 PM EST. Each application must include contact information, location, project description, roles of directly impacted partners, venue description, impact metrics, and relevant work samples or links. Selected projects will be showcased on the Coalition's website and/or social media.
The grant application will be reviewed solely by designated Broadway Advocacy Coalition staff and relevant reviewers. There is no indication that recipients must submit formal grant reports or that the Coalition will claim ownership of the work. Frequently asked questions on the application site help clarify eligibility and review criteria.
