Grant Description

The Dammann Fund, Inc. is a private charitable organization dedicated to supporting qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are not private foundations. It concentrates its grantmaking within New York City, Southwestern Connecticut, Westchester County, and Charlottesville, Virginia. The fund prioritizes initiatives that focus on supporting teen parenting and enhancing independent living for individuals with mental illness. The fund targets two core program areas. The first is teen parenting, where the goal is to foster strong parenting skills among young parents. The second is mental health, specifically funding programs that help individuals with mental illness achieve independent living. The fund strictly excludes grants for capital projects, endowments, loans, travel, and similar expenses. Applicants may seek funding for a single program for up to three consecutive years, but a new application is required annually. After three years, applicants must take a one-year break from applying. The Dammann Fund offers the option of requesting a one-, two-, or three-year grant. Multi-year grantees are expected to submit a progress report rather than a renewal application. To qualify, organizations must provide IRS verification of their tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) and confirm that they are not classified as private foundations under Section 509(a). Applications must also include financial documentation such as a recent audit, complete IRS Form 990, organizational and project budgets, and statements of organizational integrity and conflict of interest compliance. Applications must be submitted online or postmarked by June 30. During the review period, which culminates in funding decisions by fall, a site visit may be requested. Successful applicants receive funds by December 1. Questions and complete applications with supporting documents must be submitted to df@engelanddavis.com. All materials listed in the required checklist must be included at the time of application submission.
