The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) administers the Healthcare Upskilling and Training Grant Program, designed to bolster workforce capacity and enhance care delivery within Kansas-based health systems. This initiative targets hospitals and long-term care organizations seeking to provide specialized training and upskilling opportunities to their workforce. The overarching goal is to improve access to care while elevating organizational efficiency across the state.
Eligible applicants include accredited hospitals and long-term care facilities operating within Kansas. Through this competitive grant program, KDHE aims to fund projects that focus on employee development, local training initiatives, career advancement pathways, and employee retention. Applicants may request funding amounts between $10,000 and $50,000, with a total program funding cap of $1 million. Applicants must justify their requested funding within the proposal.
Funding can be used for costs related to trainers (salaries, travel, fringe benefits), trainees (travel), curriculum development, training materials, and certain types of equipment, including simulators. However, the program imposes strict limits on spending: funds may not be used for general staff salaries, recruitment efforts, clinical care (except where permitted by law), promotional materials, lobbying, or food and beverages.
Applications must be submitted electronically via email to kdhe.hcut@ks.gov by 12:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026. Acceptable formats include Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, or Microsoft Excel. Submissions must include a signed W-9 form and a detailed project timeline. Incomplete or incorrectly formatted applications will not be considered. Organizations may submit multiple applications in a year but must close out prior projects before applying for new ones. Applications are reviewed every six weeks.
Each application must include a project timeline, and funded organizations are required to submit a final project report within 30 days of project completion. The report must include the number of individuals trained and a summary of skills or capacities acquired. For further questions, applicants can reach out via email to kdhe.hcut@ks.gov or by phone at 785-296-1086. There is no pre-application stage or recurring cycle specified, but the regular review cadence suggests opportunities may re-open in future years.
Include clear justifications for budget and timeline; ensure documentation completeness to avoid disqualification.
