Art & Culture Grant
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Broward County to enhance and sustain arts and cultural initiatives that promote community engagement and accessibility for diverse populations.
The Community Foundation of Broward offers Art & Culture grants to support the expansion, elevation, and sustainability of a vibrant arts ecosystem that reaches all corners of Broward County. This focus area aims to foster cultural vitality and increase exposure to meaningful artistic and historical experiences for residents of all backgrounds. Grants are available to eligible nonprofit organizations that meet specific transparency and operational requirements, with the goal of embedding art and culture into the fabric of the community. The Foundation emphasizes the vital role that art and culture play in thriving communities. Arts programming strengthens community identity, creates opportunities for dialogue, and fosters healing and unity during difficult times. The Foundation recognizes that the arts sector in Florida contributes significantly to economic growth, accounting for 2.9% of the state's GDP. However, historical underfunding and challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic have led to over $26 million in economic losses, making sustained support critical to recovery and growth. Eligible projects must align with specific thematic categories such as Arts Expressions and Cultural Assets. Arts Expressions encompass creative disciplines including live performance, murals, film, public art installations, song, dance, literature, photography, art education, and therapy. Projects that use art for education, literacy, or healing—such as art therapy or arts-based adult education—are encouraged. Cultural Asset projects aim to preserve and enhance Broward’s cultural institutions, history, humanities, and shared heritage. This includes support for libraries, museums, and community-based cultural organizations. The Foundation also prioritizes accessibility in the arts. Funded proposals should increase participation among diverse and often underserved populations such as youth, seniors, residents with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those living in distressed communities. Projects should ignite creativity, foster pride and identity, and break down social barriers. The Foundation encourages work that reflects Broward's multicultural heritage and supports lifelong learning through the arts. Individual artists are not eligible to apply directly for this grant but may receive support through the Foundation's partnership with the Broward County Cultural Division’s Artist Innovation program. Interested artists are encouraged to contact the Cultural Division directly for separate application opportunities. Art & Culture grants are open for application during two cycles each year. The submission deadlines are October 15, 2025, and March 1, 2026. Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online grant portal. To be eligible, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization or have a qualified fiscal sponsor, hold a Candid Gold Seal of Transparency, and have at least two years of programmatic experience in Broward County. New applicants are limited to one-year funding requests; returning grantees may apply for multi-year awards, up to three years. The maximum request is $150,000 annually, not to exceed 50% of the applicant’s annual operating budget. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend virtual office hours, technical assistance sessions, or training opportunities provided by the Foundation to improve the quality of their submission. Final funding decisions are made by the Board of Directors and communicated within 3 to 4 months of submission.
