Grant Description

The Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) is accepting proposals for its June 2025 Research and Development Grant Program. This initiative is aimed at supporting innovative research and development activities that address key challenges in wastewater, drinking water, water resource management, solid waste management, and energy resource development within Ohio. The OWDA is an independent state agency tasked with financing water-related infrastructure projects throughout the state. With Governor Mike DeWine and Chairman R. Gregory Browning overseeing the agency, OWDA continues to foster technological and scientific advancements that promote environmental stewardship and public health. The program provides financial assistance on a cost-share basis, requiring applicants to match OWDA funds dollar-for-dollar. OWDA will fund up to 50% of the total project cost, with a maximum contribution capped at $200,000 per project. This funding model ensures that applicants demonstrate commitment and investment in the proposed research initiatives. Priority will be given to proposals that focus on water quality, water technology, water equity, water reuse, and water resilience and security—key areas identified by OWDA as critical to the future sustainability of Ohio's water infrastructure and resources. Eligible applicants include local government agencies such as cities, villages, and counties; water or sewer districts; conservancy districts; state agencies; and institutions of higher education that conduct relevant research and development. The program is specifically tailored for entities with the capacity to undertake substantial, impactful projects aligned with OWDA’s strategic objectives. Applicants must submit their proposals electronically via email to Christine Okonak at cokonak@owda.org. The deadline for proposal submission is Friday, June 6, 2025, by 5:00 PM. Following this deadline, a public meeting will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, for applicant presentations. Final recommendations will be presented at OWDA’s regularly scheduled Board meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2025, with final grant approvals made at the subsequent Board meeting on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Applicants with questions about the grant program are encouraged to contact Christine Okonak either by email at cokonak@owda.org or by phone at 614-728-0174. OWDA emphasizes transparency and accessibility in its grant-making process, offering a clear timeline and open communication to support applicants through the process.
