Grant Description

The Community Investment Program (CIP) is an initiative launched in 2023 by Grid United through the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation to support local development in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The program focuses specifically on Cimarron and Texas Counties, aligning with the planned route of Grid United’s Three Corners Connector transmission line. This infrastructure project, which links U.S. electric grids in Oklahoma and Colorado, forms the basis for CIP’s geographic and strategic priorities. The fund reflects Grid United’s commitment to a long-term partnership with the affected communities, aiming to strengthen local institutions, services, and economic opportunities. CIP is designed to support innovative community projects that meaningfully improve residents’ quality of life in the designated counties. Emphasis is placed on initiatives that demonstrate a broad, positive impact and respond creatively to emerging challenges or opportunities. Successful proposals often show community engagement, offer scalable or sustainable approaches, and may incorporate diverse funding sources. Projects should address critical local needs and foster inclusive participation in economic and social development efforts. The program is open to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations as well as government entities, including local governments, tribal governments, and school districts. Private individuals and for-profit companies are ineligible. Organizations do not need to be physically located in Cimarron or Texas County, but funded projects must directly benefit residents of those areas. Each organization is limited to submitting one application per cycle, though past applicants may reapply for new project phases in future cycles. CIP offers two funding cycles each year. The spring deadline is May 15, and the fall deadline is November 1. Only online applications submitted through the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation website are accepted. Proposals are evaluated by a Community Advisory Committee composed of diverse local leaders and residents. All applicants are notified of funding decisions within a few months following each deadline. While the fund aims to support impactful projects, not all applications will be funded or awarded their full requested amounts. Grants are available for up to $50,000. CIP does not provide funding for sectarian religious activities, political initiatives, or individual applicants. Awarded funds must be spent within one year, and a project report is required before eligibility for future funding is restored. This reporting helps ensure transparency and accountability, reinforcing the program’s role in long-term community enhancement. Applicants with questions may contact the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation via email at [email protected] or by phone at 580-234-3988. Comprehensive guidelines and the application portal are accessible at www.cherokeestripcf.com/cip
