Community Assistance Grants
This program provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in West Texas counties to help them address urgent community needs through reimbursement for eligible expenses.
The Community Assistance Grants program offered by the Junior League of Lubbock reflects the organization’s historic commitment to supporting community-based initiatives through direct monetary awards to nonprofit organizations. Originally focused on funding local causes before launching its own signature programs, the League maintains its tradition of external support through these grants. The Community Assistance Grants are designed to serve nonprofit agencies in Crosby, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, and Terry counties, enabling them to address pressing and short-term needs through financial reimbursement for incurred expenses. Eligible nonprofit agencies may apply for up to $5,000 per grant cycle, although the average award typically amounts to approximately $1,500. These grants are awarded biannually—in the fall and spring—by the Community Impact Council of the Junior League of Lubbock, with final decisions ratified by the Executive Board. Applicants may only receive funds once per League year (April and November distribution cycles), and applications submitted outside the designated timeline will be deferred to the subsequent grant cycle. Spring 2026 applications opened on February 2 and are due by March 6, 2026, with award disbursement scheduled for April 2026. The grant program is strictly reimbursement-based, requiring that all applications include receipts for previously incurred eligible expenses between October 4, 2025, and March 6, 2026. Invoices are not accepted as substitutes. All required documentation must be uploaded during the online application process, which does not allow users to save progress and return later. Documents required include a statement of purpose, board and committee listings, current and prior budgets, the most recent year-end financials, IRS Form 990, proof of 501(c)(3) status (or equivalent), and receipts for requested reimbursements. Incomplete applications or those that lack proper documentation will be deemed ineligible. Grant applications are evaluated based on alignment with the Junior League of Lubbock’s mission to promote voluntarism and develop women’s potential for community leadership. Funding may be requested for programs promoting volunteerism, training or educational efforts (including travel expenses), equipment, former JLL project extensions, capital improvements, and unexpected financial needs. Emergency situations are given particular priority and may be reviewed outside the regular cycle if necessary. However, requests tied to fundraising efforts, capital campaigns, political or religious activities, and those from individuals are not eligible. The grant submission process is facilitated through an online portal, and applicants must ensure all components are prepared beforehand due to the one-session submission format. All eligible applications are assessed for how closely the proposed use of funds aligns with the Junior League’s stated criteria and mission. Kathy Wells, Vice President of the Community Impact Council, serves as the primary contact for the grant program and can be reached via email at [email protected] or by mail at 4205 84th Street, Lubbock, TX 79423. The Community Assistance Grants continue to serve as a vital resource for nonprofits across the West Texas counties it serves. By offering responsive financial support through a structured, equitable review process, the Junior League of Lubbock upholds its legacy of civic engagement and meaningful community impact.
