Summer Activation Mini-Grant
This funding opportunity supports Long Beach community organizations and residents in hosting free summer events focused on violence prevention, intervention, and healing to strengthen neighborhood ties and promote well-being.
The Summer Activation 2025 funding opportunity is offered by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Community Impact Division’s Advancing Peace Initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to enhance community engagement and well-being across Long Beach by supporting local summer events and programs. These initiatives are meant to strengthen neighborhood ties, foster economic development, promote healthy living, and enhance public safety. This grant supports summer activities occurring between June 1, 2025, and September 15, 2025. The initiative seeks to empower residents and organizations to organize community events that are centered around violence prevention, intervention, or healing. These events must be free to attend and open to the public. Funding is capped at $2,500 for individual applicants and single organizations, while collaborative applications may receive up to $5,000. Each applicant is limited to funding for one event. Eligible applicants include Local Neighborhood Associations, Community-Based Organizations, Foundations, and Non-profit Organizations operating within Long Beach. To qualify for funding, events must integrate one of the following components: prevention strategies that target the root causes of violence through outreach and education; intervention strategies that address imminent or ongoing violence through direct response and conflict mediation; or aftercare efforts that support victims or rehabilitate perpetrators post-incident. Examples of qualifying events include public art projects, safety walks, healing circles, and community job fairs. To complete the application process, applicants must submit a W-9 form, event flyer, outreach list or sign-in sheet, and receipts. Applications must be submitted by May 12, 2025. Technical assistance is available virtually on May 1, 2025, and in person on May 8, 2025, at specified Long Beach locations. One-on-one support can also be scheduled at the Ronald Arias Health Equity Center. For further inquiries or to schedule in-person support, applicants are encouraged to email LBPeace@longbeach.gov. The application process is non-recurring and tied specifically to the 2025 summer season.
