The Community Action Grant is offered by the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, a private nonprofit committed to enhancing the quality of life in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. This annual grant program supports nonprofits that foster creativity, build sustainable practices, and strengthen community partnerships.
Each year, BHACF offers two Community Action Grantsโone for $20,000 and another for $50,000. The opportunity outlined here provides $20,000 in funding to a single recipient. Eligible applicants must hold an agency endowment fund with BHACF and be recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity, school, government entity, or religious organization.
Proposals must be tied to activities within Butte, Custer, Fall River, Lawrence, Meade, Oglala Lakota, or Pennington counties in South Dakota. BHACF welcomes applications for both new and ongoing programs across a wide range of funding areas. However, grants cannot support political or religious activities, reimbursement for past expenses, capital campaigns, debt, or projects that discriminate against legally protected groups.
Applications for this $20,000 grant opened on June 1, 2025, and will close on July 7, 2025. The opportunity is not offered on a rolling basis, but it is expected to recur annually. Recipients are required to submit a final report either upon completion of the grant work or within 30 days following the grant year.
Interested applicants must submit their proposals through the BHACFโs online grant application portal. First-time applicants need to create an account before applying. For questions about accounts or the application process, applicants can contact Carrie Robley at carrie@bhacf.org or call 605-718-0112.
