Grant Description

The Obama Foundation Leaders USA Program is a six-month, non-residential leadership development initiative designed to support and connect emerging changemakers across the United States. The program seeks to equip 100 participants with the tools, frameworks, and relationships necessary to drive systems-level change in their communities while promoting values-based leadership. Focused on strengthening democratic culture, fostering collective action, and advancing pluralism, the program provides a comprehensive experience for leaders committed to creating sustainable, inclusive change. Eligible participants are aged 24-45, have at least three years of demonstrated impact, and come from diverse sectors, including public service, civil society, and the private sector. Leaders are chosen to represent the rich diversity of the United States, ensuring varied perspectives and approaches within the cohort. The program intentionally recruits individuals with a clear focus on specific issues and who demonstrate a commitment to pluralistic engagement over polarization. By assembling leaders from diverse backgrounds, the program creates an intellectually challenging and supportive learning environment. The program features several core components. Over six months, participants engage in weekly virtual sessions that include insights from subject matter experts, peer learning, and practical case studies. These sessions are designed to deepen participants' understanding of values-based leadership and provide actionable strategies to strengthen democracy. Additionally, participants join small community groups that meet monthly to reflect on program modules, exchange perspectives, and discuss their experiences in applying leadership principles to real-world challenges. Another key element of the program is individual leadership coaching. Each leader is paired with a coach who provides monthly sessions to help clarify goals, identify personal strengths, and unlock potential. This personalized approach ensures that participants receive tailored support to maximize their impact as changemakers. Through this initiative, the Obama Foundation aims to build a network of innovative and active leaders who embrace engagement, pluralism, and sustainable solutions. By fostering connections and providing strategic training, the program seeks to empower participants to create meaningful and lasting change in their communities and beyond.
