Grant Description

The FY2026 Community-Based Grant Programs administered by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) for the District of Columbia provide targeted support to nonprofit organizations working to promote safety, rights, and opportunities for vulnerable populations in Washington, DC. The OAG serves as the chief legal office for the District and is responsible for enforcing laws, advising government agencies, and protecting the public interest. Through this grant program, the OAG offers four distinct funding opportunities: Cure the Streets, Domestic Workers Employment Rights, Leaders of Tomorrow: Youth Violence Prevention, and Workplace Rights. Each program aligns with OAG’s mission to uphold justice and equity within the District. The Cure the Streets (CTS) initiative is a violence interruption and public safety program focused on six designated neighborhoods in DC with historically high rates of gun violence. Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) may apply for multiple sites but must submit individual applications per site. Up to $750,000 is available per site. CTS grantees are required to provide a dedicated office space, demonstrate established community partnerships, and have no bylaws prohibiting the hiring of individuals with criminal records. The program model emphasizes hiring credible messengers to engage with residents and prevent violence through community engagement and conflict mediation. The Domestic Workers Employment Rights grant offers up to $260,000 across three initiatives: Education and Outreach ($150,000), Capacity Building ($65,000), and Advisory Board Support ($45,000). Eligible CBOs must have at least two years of experience working with domestic workers and comply with the Domestic Workers Employment Rights Amendment Act of 2022. Funded organizations will engage in legal education, outreach, and systemic advocacy to protect the rights of domestic workers in the District. The Leaders of Tomorrow: Youth Violence Prevention program provides up to $500,000 in total funding, with a maximum of $100,000 per organization. The program funds five initiative areas: Traditional Programming, Parental Guidance and Assistance, Mental Health Support, Youth Engagement, and Substance Abuse Recovery. Applicants must define their target demographic, show prior experience with at-risk youth, and outline measurable outcomes aimed at reducing youth involvement in violence. The Workplace Rights program offers up to $750,000 in funding and requires that no individual award be less than $100,000. Awardees must demonstrate their ability to reach low- and moderate-income workers (defined as earning less than three times the DC minimum wage or within 400% of the federal poverty level). Program goals include legal education, support, and outreach to help workers understand and access their employment rights. Applications must be submitted through the OAG Grants Portal (https://oag-grants.fluxx.io/user_sessions/new) by July 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM EST. No extensions will be granted. Pre-solicitation conferences for each grant area are scheduled between June 24 and June 26, 2025, and applicants must RSVP to OAG.Grants@dc.gov. Application materials must include a detailed project narrative, budget, proof of nonprofit status, current business license, insurance documentation, financial records, and various certifications. Missing any mandatory documents results in automatic disqualification. Applications will be evaluated by internal or external review panels based on five criteria: Organizational Overview (15 points), Capacity and Staffing (20 points), Description of Proposed Services (30 points), Timeline and Deliverables (20 points), and Budget and Narrative (15 points). All grants will run from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, and will be reimbursed monthly. Reports and ongoing performance monitoring are required. Awards will be announced within 45 days of the deadline. For all questions, applicants should contact the Grant Management Unit at OAG.Grants@dc.gov.
