Grant Description

The Kent County Fund for the Arts, a component fund of the CenDel Foundation, is currently accepting grant applications for 2026. Established in 2008 through a generous donation by Rosemary M. Twilley in memory of Joshua M. Twilley, Esq., this fund is committed to fostering the growth of arts organizations and promoting the arts across Kent County. The fund is administered by the Kent County Fund for the Arts Advisory Board with support from the Greater Dover Committee, local patrons, and the broader community. The program has a well-established legacy of investment in local arts initiatives, having awarded over $25,000 in the previous grant cycle to qualifying nonprofits. The primary objective of the Kent County Fund for the Arts is to enhance cultural life and educational opportunities through strategic grantmaking. Grants support a variety of artistic activities and projects that elevate Kent County as a regional arts destination, contribute to economic and community development, and provide meaningful educational experiences. Programs are evaluated on their quality, scope, projected impact, and alignment with community development goals. Specific emphasis is placed on projects that introduce new art acquisitions, sponsor performances, or expand programming that might not be viable without external support. Applications are welcomed from public institutions and qualified nonprofit organizations, specifically 501(c)(3) entities with current IRS documentation. To ensure equitable access and support for impactful programming, awards generally range from $500 to $2,500, based on the applicant’s demonstrated need and the strength of their proposal. However, funds cannot be used for general operating expenses, capital campaigns, political or lobbying activities, start-up costs, debt retirement, or religious programming that restricts audience participation. Programs must begin on or after July 1, 2026, to be eligible. Interested applicants must submit their completed application packages by 4:00 PM ET on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The submission must include a completed application form, a detailed project budget, IRS nonprofit determination letter, the organization’s most recent financial statement (including a profit & loss statement, cash flow statement, budget vs. actual, and financial position), and a current list of the organization’s board of directors. Optional supporting materials may also be submitted. All materials must be emailed to [email protected]. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The application process involves answering several questions that address the organization's mission, the project's goals, implementation timeline, audience demographics, marketing strategy, and collaborative partnerships. Applications are scored based on quality, clarity, and potential community impact. Site visits may be conducted during the review phase, and applicants are encouraged to use the Kent County Fund for the Arts logo in publicity and press releases related to the funded project. The fund follows an annual grantmaking cycle, with all awards made prior to June 30, 2026. All decisions are made by the Advisory Board in accordance with the fund’s mission to serve the Kent County community without discrimination. By fostering collaboration and innovation in the arts, this fund plays a critical role in supporting local culture and creativity.
