Large Community Improvement Grant
This grant provides funding for neighborhood-led projects in Centennial that improve shared community spaces, such as landscaping, signage, and community gardens, fostering collaboration and pride among residents.
The Large Community Improvement Grant is a funding initiative offered by the City of Centennial’s Neighborhood Services. This grant is designed to support community-driven projects that enhance the physical appearance and public use of shared neighborhood spaces. Targeted toward projects with a larger scope and broader community benefit, it enables neighborhoods to undertake visible improvements that align with the city’s goals of beautification, engagement, and collective enhancement. The city has created a structured application process to ensure that funded projects meet municipal standards and truly benefit Centennial's public spaces. Eligible applicants may request up to $10,000 in grant funding per project. The grant is intended specifically for improvements to common areas that are accessible to and usable by the public. Projects can include a variety of community-enhancing elements such as neighborhood signage, landscaping, placemaking efforts, and community gardens. Importantly, projects must be located within the City of Centennial and comply with all city codes and regulations. They also must be approved by the relevant property owner or controlling entity. The city places a strong emphasis on resident involvement, requiring that at least two project leads reside at different addresses within the community and are responsible for the project throughout its lifecycle. The application process includes several mandatory elements. Applicants must meet with the Neighborhood Services Manager before submitting their proposal—this is a strict prerequisite. The proposal itself must include a detailed project description, explanation of community impact, event logistics if applicable, and the method by which community consensus was achieved. Other documentation requirements include a map of the project location, photos of the area pre-improvement, a proposed timeline and budget, and contractor quotes (a minimum of three per project portion). Contractors must be licensed in Centennial and carry proper insurance. There are also specific disqualifiers to note. Projects located on private property or not visible to the public are ineligible. Additionally, projects managed by developer-controlled HOAs or Metro districts, or those affiliated with religious, educational, or political organizations, are excluded. Proposals for work already in progress or completed before the grant award will not be considered. These criteria help ensure that funding supports initiatives that align with the public benefit objectives of the program. For 2026, proposals will be accepted between February 13 and April 1, with an application deadline of April 1 at 11:59 p.m. Two informational sessions are scheduled to assist potential applicants: one on February 10 and another on February 12, both held at 7 p.m. at the Centennial Public Works building. While attendance at these sessions is not required, it is encouraged to help applicants fully understand the program requirements and improve their submission quality. Following the close of the submission window, grant awards will be announced in May. All funded projects are expected to be completed by October 2026. To commemorate each initiative, recipients are required to install a plaque at the improvement site recognizing the collaboration between residents and the city. The grant program is part of Centennial's ongoing commitment to empowering neighborhoods to actively contribute to the city’s vitality and livability.
