Valley Needs and Opportunities Grants for Non-profit Organizations in Connecticut are being offered by The Valley Community Foundation (VCF) to support innovative programs and urgent needs of local nonprofits in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton. The grants range from $250 to $10,000 and decisions are made on a rolling basis. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) or have a fiscal agent with the appropriate tax status. Priority is given to local nonprofits, and projects involving partnerships must have a lead organization with the necessary tax status. Funding can be used for virtual programs, capacity building needs, or technology purchases for virtual programming or staff work. Religious activities, endowment campaigns, lobbying, travel, previously incurred debts, and funding deficits are not eligible for consideration. While each grant process has its own criteria, all applicants must be defined as tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) or any applicable statute of the Internal Revenue code. While grants are occasionally made to governmental agencies, local nonprofits receive priority. Requests will be considered from groups that do not have tax-exemption status, provided that they have a fiscal agent with the appropriate tax status. In projects involving a partnership of agencies, a single agency with the appropriate tax status and financial management capacity must assume the role of lead organization. Individuals are not eligible for grants except for applicants to academic scholarships.
