Grant Description

The Community Foundation of Dunn County (CFDC) offers Community Grants to support nonprofit organizations and civic groups that address local needs within Dunn County, Wisconsin. CFDC's mission is to connect donors with causes that matter, enhancing the quality of life for current and future residents of the county. The Foundation distributes grants through two competitive cycles annually and funds a broad range of initiatives including health, arts, culture, heritage, environment, recreation, education, humanitarian support, and other civic activities. Funding for these grants is sourced from CFDC funds established by families, philanthropists, corporations, and private foundations committed to the betterment of the community. Each year, the Foundation awards approximately $70,000 or more in grant funding, with average individual awards around $2,500. Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000. Around 20 applications are received each cycle, and 12 to 15 applicants are selected to receive either full or partial funding. Applications are reviewed based on several evaluation criteria including the project’s merit, feasibility, clarity of goals, measurable outcomes, organizational capacity, and potential impact on a wide range of residents. Grant project types include Community Health and Wellbeing, Program Development or Expansion, and Capacity Building. The Community Health and Wellbeing category, often supported through the Healthy Futures Fund, covers initiatives related to public health education, delivery services, research, housing, food security, and safety. Program Development or Expansion grants support innovative services that respond to evolving community needs and demonstrate sustainability. Capacity Building grants aim to increase the long-term effectiveness of organizations through improvements in governance, partnerships, communications, evaluation tools, and operational equipment. Eligibility for funding includes independent nonprofits, 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, local units of national/state organizations, and civic clubs or groups formed to undertake charitable projects. Units of government, including Native American tribal governments, are eligible when the proposed project goes beyond traditional governmental functions. Public, private, and parochial schools may also be considered when addressing significant community issues. However, funding is generally not provided for annual operations, endowments, political or religious activities, debt, or group travel. Indirect costs up to 15% are allowed if clearly detailed in the budget. Applications must articulate clear, measurable outcomes and demonstrate sustainability, community collaboration, and broad resident impact. Grants are not intended for ongoing or multi-year funding. While faith-based groups may apply, projects must not promote religious doctrine or activities. Capital campaigns and projects by governmental units or educational institutions are considered lower priority unless there is strong community relevance. CFDC’s grant application procedures, opportunities, and updates are available at http://cfdunncounty.org/grants. Applications must be submitted by February 1 or August 1, and award notifications are issued thereafter. Prospective applicants should ensure clarity in their objectives and outline how impact will be measured and shared.
