The Herbert A. and Adrian W. Woods Foundation is a private philanthropic organization established on June 9, 1999, in honor of Mrs. Adrian W. Woods, who was known for her deep charitable commitment to the St. Louis, Missouri, community. The foundation was created upon her passing to extend her legacy of giving, and it primarily supports nonprofit organizations within the greater St. Louis area.
The Foundation is focused on funding charitable organizations aligned with the interests of its founders. Key priority areas include programs that support abused, neglected, or troubled children, initiatives serving the poor, and efforts by the Episcopal Church and its affiliates, particularly outreach programs. Additional areas of support include the arts and cultural organizations within the metropolitan St. Louis area, animal welfare efforts in Missouri, and organizations aiding victims of illness or disability—including research into these conditions.
Eligible types of funding requests include support for special projects, capital campaigns (as part of a larger, community-supported effort), challenge or matching grants, and general operational funding. However, the foundation does not fund multi-year pledges or endowment creation and funding. Organizations applying for capital campaign support must demonstrate that the foundation’s contribution is part of a broader effort supported by multiple funders.
Applications are due annually by September 1. All applications undergo a review by the Foundation’s Trustees, who take into account both the donor's historical giving and the specific needs of prior grantee organizations. Final decisions regarding funding are issued by November 30 of the same year. While the foundation does not publish an extensive application process, it is expected that applicants are aligned with one or more of the foundation’s defined areas of interest and are located within the geographic restrictions specified.
For inquiries or submission guidance, applicants may reach out to the foundation via the dedicated email address: [email protected]. This program represents a recurring funding opportunity with an annual cycle, reinforcing its commitment to ongoing community support in the St. Louis area.
