2025 Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment Grant
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in eastern North Carolina that focus on improving education, health, and human services for local communities, particularly benefiting women, youth, and older adults.
The Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment, administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF), supports nonprofit organizations that provide critical services in eastern North Carolina. The endowment, part of NCCF’s commitment to enhancing community well-being, was established to foster long-term philanthropic investment in regional needs, especially in the areas of education, health, and human services. For the 2025 grant cycle, applications will be accepted from June 20, 2025, until 12:00 PM on July 22, 2025. Awards will be announced in October or early November 2025. Grants typically range between $25,000 and $50,000, with a maximum of $50,000 awarded to any single organization per year. The grant period spans 24 months, beginning from the date of the award. Recipients must complete all funded activities and submit a follow-up report before becoming eligible for future applications. Organizations that received funding in a prior cycle are welcome to reapply, provided their prior grant term has concluded. Grantees must wait at least three years from their award date before reapplying. The program primarily funds projects that align with one of three focus areas: education, health, and human services. Education-focused grants aim to enhance academic achievement and school success within pre-K, K-12, and 4-year college or university settings. This includes after-school and extracurricular programs with an academic or leadership development component. Health initiatives must demonstrate a direct impact on physical, mental, or general wellness outcomes for individuals and communities. Human services grants address basic needs such as food, shelter, and safety, including employment assistance and domestic violence support services that especially benefit women. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)(3) public charities or nonprofit organizations operating under a qualified fiscal sponsor. Proposals must clearly align with the stated focus areas and directly benefit communities within one or more of the 41 eligible eastern North Carolina counties. These include, but are not limited to, Beaufort, Brunswick, Craven, Duplin, Johnston, New Hanover, Pitt, Robeson, and Wilson counties. Preference may be given to programs serving women, youth, older adults, or communities in southeastern North Carolina. All services must be offered without discrimination on the basis of age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics. Certain organizations are not eligible for funding. These include government entities, their associated foundations, and nonprofit arms (such as “friends of” groups), as well as private schools, religious institutions, and political or lobbying organizations. Grants will not support endowments, capital campaigns, loans, or individuals. Re-granting of funds is also prohibited. Healthcare systems owned by public universities may still be eligible. Applications must be submitted online through NCCF’s grant portal. First-time users must create an account as outlined in Training Module I. Returning users can log in directly. Applicants must enter the access code “MrsB” (case-sensitive) to access the specific program link titled “Louise Oriole Burevitch Fund – 2025 Grant Program for Eastern NC.” A preview option is available for applicants to review the form before submission.
