Mental Health RFP

The Horizon Foundation, Maryland’s largest independent health philanthropy, is committed to creating a community free from systemic inequities, particularly within Howard County. Through strategic partnerships and advocacy, the Foundation aims to dismantle structural racism, support equitable healthcare access, and promote holistic well-being. For the 2025 cycle, the Foundation continues its mental health initiatives, seeking to partner with community-based organizations to bolster resilience, amplify marginalized voices, and advocate for sustainable mental health services. The grant aims to address the persistent mental health struggles identified in the 2024 Howard County Health Assessment Survey. These include widespread depression, anxiety, and isolation, particularly among underserved populations. While ongoing investments support school-based mental health and crisis intervention, the Foundation emphasizes the need to enhance awareness and acceptance of available services and to ensure long-term systemic improvements through advocacy and storytelling. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations or operate under a fiscal sponsor with such status. Applicants should serve Howard County or greater Maryland and support the Foundation’s values, particularly around racial equity and community empowerment. Selected grantees will receive $15,000–$20,000 in operating support to carry out initiatives such as hosting storytelling events, organizing convenings to promote mental health services, and participating in advocacy through the Mental Health Matters Coalition. In alignment with trust-based philanthropy, grantees will co-create solutions with the Foundation post-award. Support includes technical assistance, anti-racism and organizing trainings, and ongoing engagement with Foundation staff. Awardees must participate in at least three convenings and complete a racial equity and advocacy assessment. Applications must be submitted online by November 17, 2025, at 11:59:59 PM EST. Applicants will be notified of award decisions by November 25, 2025. The grant period will run from January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
