Grant Description

The Betty and Davis Fitzgerald Foundation, Inc., is a private philanthropic entity committed to advancing equity and opportunity for underserved communities within the 21-county Metro Atlanta region. Grounded in the principles of cultivating talent, promoting collective action, and advancing systemic change, the Foundation prioritizes initiatives in mental health and education. The Foundation seeks to fund organizations whose missions align with its core focus areas and who serve families with low incomes and historically marginalized or underserved communities. Grants from the Foundation may support a variety of needs, including general operations, specific programs, or special projects, with occasional consideration given to capital expenses. Funding priorities are directed toward efforts that measurably improve outcomes in mental health and educational equity. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their leadership and staff reflect the diversity of the communities they serve, including details on racial and gender representation. Eligibility requirements include classification as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, alignment with the Foundation’s mental health and/or education focus areas, and a direct service area within the 21-county Metro Atlanta region. Proposals must demonstrate clear benefits for families in marginalized communities, and organizations must confirm alignment with these criteria prior to applying via the Partner Portal. The application process begins with a one-page proposal of no more than 750 words submitted through the Foundation’s online platform. This proposal must include an organizational summary, a description of the funding request, information on populations served, and demographic details about leadership. Proposals are reviewed during three annual cycles, with the deadlines falling on January 15, March 31, and July 15. After each deadline, 6–8 proposals may be selected for a site visit based on alignment with funding priorities and available budget. Applicants selected for the site visit will be asked to provide additional documentation and may engage in a virtual, hybrid, or in-person meeting. Following the site visit, Foundation staff compile a report for review by the Board, which then decides on funding awards. Organizations are notified of funding decisions within two business days of the Board’s meeting. If awarded, funds are typically transferred within 30 business days following submission of required documentation. All grantees are expected to submit a report at the end of the grant period or annually, depending on grant terms. The Foundation accommodates flexible reporting formats, including written narratives or meetings, and coordinates deadlines and format preferences with grantees. Organizations whose proposals are declined must wait one year before reapplying, while funded organizations must wait at least six months after the grant term ends to submit a new proposal.
