Upper Connecticut River Mitigation and Enhancement Fund
This funding opportunity supports nonprofits and local governments in restoring and enhancing the natural environment of the Connecticut River watershed, focusing on projects that provide unique environmental benefits.
The Upper Connecticut River Mitigation and Enhancement Fund (MEF) supports projects that restore, protect, and enhance the natural environment of the Connecticut River watershed above the White River confluence at White River Junction, VT, and West Lebanon, NH. The fund, established through a settlement agreement connected to the relicensing of hydroelectric dams at Fifteen Mile Falls, prioritizes initiatives within this region. Projects within the White River sub-watershed are considered only if they provide unique environmental benefits that cannot be achieved elsewhere in the upper Connecticut River watershed. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, municipalities, or government subdivisions. Non-charitable organizations may apply if sponsored by a public charity. Grants vary in size, with requests under $10,000 often requiring only a concept paper. Concept papers are due by December 5, 2024, at 5:00 pm ET, with GrantSource accepting applications beginning on November 4, 2024. If invited, a full application is due by February 6, 2025. The application process includes: Eligibility Review: Familiarize yourself with MEF’s priorities and evaluation criteria. Consultation: Contact Program Officer Ben Amsden at 603-225-6641 ext. 225 or Ben.Amsden@nhcf.org to discuss project ideas. GrantSource Profile: Log in or create a new profile on GrantSource. Project Reporting: Submit an interim or final report for any outstanding MEF-funded projects by December 5, 2024. Concept Paper Submission: Include a project map, draft budget, and metrics by the concept paper deadline. Full Application: If requested, complete the application by February 6, 2025. Funding Notification: Successful applicants will be informed in March 2025. Publicizing and Reporting: Grantees should share news of the award and complete a final report with metrics at the project’s end. Ben Amsden is available to provide guidance throughout the process.
