Grant Description

The Enfield Greater Together Community Fund, established by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2019, was created to empower local communities through civic engagement and local leadership. The fund was endowed with $100,000 for each of the 29 towns within the Foundation’s region, including Enfield, Connecticut. Its central goal is to allow residents to take ownership of identifying and addressing local needs by funding community-driven projects. In 2022, an Advisory Committee was appointed to guide the Enfield fund’s administration and oversee the application review process. The current grant cycle, opened on May 9, 2025, offers a competitive opportunity for nonprofits to apply for grants ranging from $250 to $5,000. The proposed projects must benefit the residents of Enfield and comply with the fund’s goals of inclusivity, equity, and community impact. Applications are due by July 7, 2025, and successful grantees are expected to begin their projects in or around September 2025. Each nonprofit or community group may only submit one proposal in this funding round. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that serve Enfield residents. Groups of local residents may also apply, provided they partner with a qualifying nonprofit willing to act as a fiscal agent. The Town of Enfield itself can serve as a fiscal agent if needed. Civic groups lacking IRS 501(c)(3) designation and for-profit businesses are not eligible to apply. If a group has an idea but lacks a fiscal agent, they are encouraged to contact the Advisory Committee via email for assistance in identifying a partner. The application requires several components. Applicants must explain the need for the project, identify the intended beneficiaries and describe the expected duration of the benefit, outline why the applicant is qualified to execute the project, and provide a detailed project budget using a template supplied by the fund. Proposals should clearly demonstrate non-discriminatory access to the project benefits and describe how the initiative serves all or specific parts of the Enfield community equitably. Evaluation criteria include the number of town residents expected to be impacted, the sustainability of the project, the likelihood of successful execution, the qualifications of the applicant, and the reasonableness of the project’s cost in relation to its expected impact. Proposals requesting more than $5,000 or less than $250 will not be considered. Applicants who have previously received funding must have submitted their final reports to be eligible for this cycle. All questions about the grant or the application process should be directed to the Advisory Committee at enfield@hfpgcommunityfunds.org. No phone contact was provided. This grant does not have pre-application deadlines or separate LOI stages. The process is designed to be straightforward, community-focused, and inclusive, with an emphasis on local benefit and resident engagement.
