Grant Description

The SIA Foundation, Inc., established and funded by Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc., is a private charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Indiana residents. The foundation accomplishes its mission by providing cash grants to eligible nonprofit and public-sector entities located within the state. These grants are designated specifically for capital projects, ensuring tangible and lasting benefits within local communities. The foundation supports initiatives across four primary focus areas: Arts and Culture, Education, Health and Welfare. Funding is limited to capital investments, meaning expenditures must be related to facilities, equipment, or real estate. Operational costs such as salaries, software, subscriptions, events, and vehicle purchases are explicitly excluded from funding. This restriction ensures that grants produce long-term physical improvements rather than supporting routine operational budgets. To be eligible for funding, organizations must meet specific criteria. Applicants must request between $1,000 and $15,000. Only Indiana-based projects are considered, and applicants must be either tax-exempt under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code with operations in Indiana, educational institutions located in the state, or Indiana governmental or quasi-governmental entities. Furthermore, applying organizations must demonstrate financial stability. The foundation reserves the right to require repayment if funds are not used for their stated purpose within one year of issuance. The grant cycle operates on a semi-annual basis, with two application windows. The Spring cycle runs from January 1 to March 31, with disbursements made by June 15. The Fall cycle is open from July 1 to September 30, with awards disbursed by December 15. The grant is recurring, but organizations that receive funding must wait through two full cycles before reapplying. This limitation encourages diverse distribution of support throughout the state. Applications are evaluated by the SIA Foundation Board of Directors based on several factors: the significance of the need being addressed, the potential of the project to enhance the quality of services or life for recipients, the projectโ€™s potential for long-term success and impact, and the project's scale within the local community. Once proposals are submitted, foundation staff conduct follow-up research, and applicants must fully cooperate with all information requests during the review process. The foundation does not fund for-profit entities, individuals, out-of-state organizations, non-exempt entities, religiously exclusive organizations, politically active groups, or any entity that discriminates in service provision. Inquiries regarding the grant opportunity can be directed to the SIA Foundation via phone at 765-449-6565. The mailing address is SIA Foundation, P.O. Box 6479, Lafayette, IN 47903.
