Grant Description

The 2026 Attorney General’s Youth Community Outreach Amateur Boxing Program for Trenton is a competitive grant initiative administered by the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Office of the Attorney General, through the State Athletic Control Board. This targeted funding opportunity is designed to support at-risk youth in Trenton, New Jersey, through a collaborative program between nonprofit or faith-based organizations and registered amateur boxing clubs. The initiative aims to build strong community partnerships and promote positive youth development while preventing delinquency and criminal behavior. The core purpose of the grant is to provide structured engagement for youth between the ages of 11 and 18 residing in Trenton who are either interested in amateur boxing or referred due to behavioral issues such as non-weaponized fighting, often linked to trauma. Participating organizations are required to partner with a New Jersey-based amateur boxing club registered with the New Jersey Association of USA Boxing or the Mid-Atlantic Association. The program promotes law enforcement collaboration with youth, encourages physical fitness, and introduces participants to career opportunities, particularly in law enforcement. Youth selected for the program will undergo screening and needs assessment to determine individualized case plans. These plans incorporate boxing and fitness training, mentoring, social services, trauma-informed care, educational support, financial literacy, and other interventions tailored to address the participant’s needs. Services may also extend to family members or caregivers where relevant. Ten youth-facing workshops are mandated, covering topics such as anger management, decision-making, law enforcement and professional boxing career exploration, and interpersonal communication. Coaches also receive training in preparedness, nonprofit collaboration, and financial planning. Applications must include a strategic plan detailing outreach, referral sources, screening methods, operations, case planning, intervention services, compliance monitoring, and evaluation methods. Applicants must demonstrate strong community integration, including the formation of an advisory team with the local police department. Mandatory components of the submission include three letters of support—one from a partnering boxing club, one from the local police, and one from an additional stakeholder—as well as documentation of nonprofit and New Jersey business status. The total available funding for the program is up to $65,000, awarded to a single eligible organization for the grant period of April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. Awards are made on a reimbursement basis, and future funding is not guaranteed beyond this cycle. Applicants are required to submit a detailed budget narrative aligned with their objectives and sustainability plans, without which the application will be disqualified. Scoring is evenly distributed across four categories: program strategy, planning, performance evaluation, and budgeting. All applications must be received by mail no later than 4:00 PM on April 7, 2026. Late submissions will be rejected. Award notifications are expected approximately 30 days after the deadline. For inquiries, applicants may contact [email protected]. This initiative provides a unique opportunity to create meaningful change through structured, evidence-based interventions for youth in Trenton.
